ISA and our innovative research partners at Imperial College London received a green light at the SESAR WP-E, FLITE gate-review meeting held at the SESAR Joint Undertaking premises in Brussels in November along during which a presentation of the preliminary technical results of the project was provided to SJU management. FLITE is an innovative research project that aims to evaluate future air travel scenarios, identify long-term stakeholders needs and competences and evaluate whether the SESAR operational concept, underpinning technologies and infrastructure will be able to accommodate aviation needs in the 2050-2070 timeframe. In the next part of the research program, FLITE will identify any gaps and determine the ability of existing analysis tools to deal with those issues, as well as looking to identify any limitations. The project will also develop enhanced analysis tools to help simulate future scenarios from an operational and technical perspective which will be used to analyse operational, technological and infrastructure requirements for future scenarios. Using the findings of these studies, FLITE will specify system requirements and a suitable functional architecture to help support a “post SESAR ATM system”.
