New Point Merge arrival route system, developed by EUROCONTROL Experimental Centre, has been implemented in Oslo on 7/4/2011. This innovative controlling method applies P-RNAV technology and merges arrival flows in a more efficient and predictable way, while enhancing safety, reducing ATC workload and minimising environmental impact by enabling CDA. In Olso this provides a reduction in CO2 emissions by 300kg per flight and additional capacity allowing for future traffic growth without increasing overall emissions. ISA Software was contracted by EUROCONTROL in 2008-2009 to support the early phases of Point Merge concept validation activities and complement real-time simulations by modelling vectoring and Point Merge techniques using RAMS Plus fast-time ATM simulator. The study findings were presented in the 9th ATIO conference in September 2009.
